Transitioning To Online

I think everyone can agree that COVID-19 has ruined many things we took for granted. Having to wear a mask, which reminds you to eat a breathe mint after lunch and fogs up your glasses if you wear them. It has closed down many small businesses, concerts, sporting events, funerals, and even surgeries if they are not life-threatening. I find it interesting how fast major corporations are able to come up with solutions to make things work during a time like this. I believe the Kelley School of Business has been doing a great job to help us prepare for situations like this for now and the future.

Throughout my whole life, I have never experienced online school until college. I was always placed in a public school since Pre-K. I took my first online class freshman year of college. It was the History of Rock and Roll. I loved that class. The professor made the weekly instructions simple to understand and provided feedback in a timely manner. I got to listen and learn about 60s and 70s rock and roll, which was great because I grew up listening to half the songs with my dad. I passed the class with an A and had an overall positive experience, but it was only one class online. I was also taking another four classes that were related to my major in-person.

When COVID-19 started to become a serious problem in the United States, I realized that we were most likely going to move to online school. At first I didn’t think that this would be a bad thing, since I have had such great experiences in the past. I would learn that this was quite the opposite. I find it hard to stay paying attention at home with the many different distractions around me. I also have experienced many internet outages during class time and quizzes. I never seemed to have these problems, since I only would take one online class a semester and there were not as many people using zoom at a time to crash the site. Communication with group members and professor can be a hassle at times. I do feel that I am more productive as a student when I am sitting in a classroom. For my first run at all online school, I believe I have done a great job as well as my professors.

Luckily, I have had professors and classmates that are going through these times with me and have made this experience better than what it could be. I am blessed my professors have been understanding and have created well developed online courses with minimal time. It has definitely made this online school experience less painful and beneficial.
